News: Fire & Stars support ‘The Boy in the Tent’ fundraising with £5 camping weekend

Fire & Stars campsite are proud to throw their support behind the astonishing efforts of Max ‘The Boy in the Tent’ Woosey for his ‘Big Camp Out’ fundraiser in March this year.

Every pitch on our woodland site can be hired out at just £5 per person, on Saturday 26 March.

Max Woosey (BEM) is the ‘Boy in the Tent’.

Max (12), who lives in Devon, has been sleeping outside in a tent since March 29, 2020 after ill neighbour, Rick Abbott told him to ‘have an adventure in this tent’ before he died from cancer.

Rick was cared for in his latter days by the North Devon Hospice, so Max decided to do as Rick asked him and set up a Just Giving page to raise money for the Hospice while he camped out.

Well over 650 nights later, Max’s incredible commitment has helped raise over £700,000 for the Hospice – enough to pay for almost 20 nurses for a whole year.

Max was awarded an BEM in the New’s Year’s Honours list, appeared as one of The Week’s ‘Eight Positive British News Stories from 2021’ and has been a permanent fixture in the media since he began his fund-raising quest.

He has received messages of support on socials media from the likes of: Bear Grylls, Jonny Wilkinson, Ashley Banjo and Carol Vorderman, among countless other famous names.

Max, who goes by the name of ‘The Boy in the Tent’ on his popular social media feeds, also won the Spirit of Adventure Award at the Pride of Britain awards in 2021.

The weekend of the ‘Big Camp Out’ will celebrate two years of Max’s camping efforts so the team at Fire & Stars have decided to get right behind him and show some camping solidarity!

Max has advised anyone joining in for his ‘Big Camp Out’ fundraiser to donate what they raise to a charity of their choice and Fire & Stars have decided to support a local hospice which is doing similar work to the one that Max supports in his home county of Devon. LOROS Hospice in Leicester will be that chosen charity.

Matt Cropp from Fire & Stars, a 50-acre wooded site in the National Forest, situated near Ibstock in north west Leicestershire, said everyone was looking forward to raising some money for such a worthy cause.

He’s encouraging campers to come and enjoy the beautiful Fire & Stars Woodland campsite in Leicestershire for just £5 per person.

“For a young man like Max to be so committed to his fund-raising camping for so long, shows amazing dedication,” said Matt.

“We wanted to join his efforts so we are making it just £5 for anyone who wants to come and spend a day and night in our beautiful woodland. LOROS Hospice do amazing work in our community so we are hoping to show our support for them as well.

“Adults and children are all welcome, they just need to book in via our website at www.fireandstars.co.uk. Let’s hope we can fill our place out and have a fantastic weekend under the stars and raise some money while we are doing so.”

Max’s Just Giving Page has received over 31,000 donations. If you want to join them, visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Max-Woosey1
